Marilyn Johnson Smith passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the age of 77. She was the cherished wife of Harold Smith, and by previous marriage, the late Benjamin Johnson. Loving mother of Charles Johnson Sr. (Andree). Daughter of the late Rose Gilbert Clark and Adolph “Henry” Clark. Sister of Mary (Richard), Kathleen (Bill) and the late Gwen (Steve). Proud grandmother of Charles Johnson Jr. (Lisa). She is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Marilyn was born in New Orleans, LA and became a devoted resident of St. Bernard Parish in 1975. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the seafood industry, working alongside her son and grandson - three generations united by a passion for hard work and dedication. She had a deep appreciation for the peace and natural beauty of life on the bayou in Hopedale. The tranquil waters and sunsets brought her comfort and joy, and found deep satisfaction in the simple pleasures of everyday life.
Family meant everything to Marilyn. After retiring, she looked forward to gathering her loved ones each week, always preparing something special from her kitchen. Her cooking, like her spirit, was warm and comforting. She embraced life with joy and generosity - whether it was sharing laughter with friends, visiting the off-track casino for a little fun or striking up conversations with new faces wherever she went. Marilyn made everyone feel welcome.
Above all, she will be remembered for her loyalty, deep love for her family and her special bond with her grandson. Marilyn was a wonderful example of compassion and care, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
Per Marilyn’s wishes, she will be remembered and honored in a private ceremony.
