

Marlene Virginia Luna Acosta, age 83 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Greenbrier Nursing Home in Slidell, LA. Marlene was the beloved mother of Gary Wayne Acosta and his companion, Ginger Schell. Loving grandmother of Rebecca Acosta Trainor (Chris) and Paul Raschke; great grandmother of Stella Trainor, Paris and Peyton Raschke; sister of Anthony Luna Jr., (Joyce) and Dianne Flick Henrie (Ronald); numerous nieces and nephews, cousin and friends. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Earl Smith Acosta; two sons, Barry Acosta and Terry Lee Acosta; her sister, Carol Marie Luna; daughter-in-law of Kathleen Kieff Acosta; her parents, Antonio Luna and the former Gertrude Moss Flick; her stepfather, Theodore “Teddy” Flick and her maternal grandparents, Nicholas Moss and the former Mary Blanchard. Marlene was born on December 30, 1932 in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish until Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and then moved to Slidell. She was known for her natural beauty, jovial laugh, love of her family, friends, and animals, and glamorous taste in fashion and perfume. Marlene had tremendous talent and creativity in floral design, which led her to work as a designer for Mimsy’s Florist. She enjoyed making people laugh, shopping, getting all dressed up and traveling. Marlene was a true lady and always carried herself with class. She was very down to earth and a blast to be in her company. Marlene will be sincerely missed by her family and friends.
