

Martin Thomas Day, Jr. passed away, peacefully at his home on October 20, 2015, after a full life of 88 years. He is survived by his wife, Helen Elaine Bright Day; his son, Ernest R. Day (Debbie) and his daughter, Martine D. Sherlock (Clifford); he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis N. Day (Kim) and daughter Timi D. Taaffe (Eddie); and by his parents Martin and Katherine "Kate" Day; and his sisters, Nina Adams (Martin), Sally Adams (Purcell), Lena D. Richerson (Richard), Kathleen St. Germain (Ray), and Ruthie Grace. Martin was born in Liverpool, Louisiana and graduated from Greensburg High. He served in the U.S. Merchant Mariners. He was a member of the Grotto M.O.V.P.E.R. and a Master Mason. He moved his family to Chalmette, Louisiana in 1960 and loved St. Bernard Parish. Martin was a retired New Orleans Public Service Bus Driver of 35 years. After retirement he taught himself to weld and built a fabrication shop, that he enjoyed working, building and creating in. He also served as a St. Bernard Parish Auxiliary Deputy. Hunting and fishing were the joys in his life, as he was an avid outdoorsman. He was loved and adored by his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a host of life-long friends and neighbors. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, Louisiana on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, 2805 Bayou Rd., St. Bernard, LA.
