

Nicholas “Duke” Ducros Collins passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the age of 69, following a yearlong struggle with cancer. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Duke had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life. He was the beloved husband of over 40 years to Lucy Whitney Collins. Loving father of Renee Collins Gagliano (Sal Jr.). Son of the late Andreas and Sybilla Ducros Collins. Brother of Andrea D. Walle (George), Sybil C. delaVergne (Jack), Elizabeth R. Collins and the late Ann. W. Collins. Proud grandfather of Brett A. Gagliano (Gabby) and Brooke A. Gagliano. Great grandfather of Brett “t-brett” M. Gagliano. He is also survived and fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many dear friends. Duke was a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and following his service, Duke enjoyed a long career of 44 years with the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was antique car enthusiast and a well-known history buff. His fondness for family and friends was surpassed only by his love for a good steak. He loved to laugh, had strong opinions and believed in a hard day’s work. He was well loved and affectionately known for his good nature and generous heart. Duke will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a friend of many, who treasured his family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2805 Bayou Rd., St. Bernard, LA on Friday, January 8th from 10:30AM – 1:00PM followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00PM. Burial will be private.
