Ruth Mayeux Zeller, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 surrounded by love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, J.P., whom she missed dearly. Family was the heart of Ruth’s life and her greatest joy. She took immense pride in her children and found endless happiness in the generations that followed. Ruth welcomed all: family, friends, and strangers alike with open arms. She was deeply proud of her Cajun heritage, found joy speaking French with her siblings, sharing stories, and experiences. She cherished her time sewing and cooking with her sisters and lunches with her youngest brother and sister-in-law. She held her faith close to her heart and maintained a lifelong devotion to her church. She loved spending time camping with family and friends. She was also deeply patriotic and proudly supported the WWII Museum.
She leaves behind a loving legacy carried on by her children, Lynell Houston, Sally Zeller (Eric "Maverick" Smith) and Eunice Bourgeois; her grandchildren, Tracy Bourgeois (Darren), Tiffney Archer (Joe), Bradley Bourgeois, Sam Houston (Tὁmas), Brant Zeller (Brittany), Danny Zeller (Marissa), Ryan Zeller and Raeanne Zeller; her 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Gene Mayeux, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever love and miss her. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, John "J.P." Zeller; her sons, Ronnie Zeller, and Johnny Zeller; her grandson, Ronnie Zeller Jr.; her parents, Doffid and Daisy Mayeux; her siblings, Daisy Chatelain, Clothile Kuchler, Verna Zeller, Shirley Juneau, Raymond Mayeux and J.D. Mayeux. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to St. Bernard Ochsner Hospital, Heritage Manor Slidell, and St. Catherine’s Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask for charitable donations to the WWII Museum.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at OUR LADY of PROMPT SUCCOR, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 9:30 AM- 11:00 AM.
