Samuel Louis Shahine Jr.

Samuel “Sammy” Shahine, Jr. passed away on August 27th in Slidell, La. at the age of 60. He was the beloved husband of Christy Cavignac Shahine for 30 years. Loving father of Devin Christopher Shahine (Alyssa) and the late Casey Robert Shahine. Son of the late Samuel Shahine, Sr. and Carol Fortier Shahine. Brother of Robert “Bobby” Shahine (Mary Jayne). Son-in-law of Ray and Bonnie Cavignac and brother-in-law to Kim Ohler Cuccia (Bruce). Uncle to Robert “BJ” Shahine (Jennifer), David Shahine (Bonnie), Ashley Ohler and Ray Ohler III. Grandfather of Casey Raymond Shahine and Jaxson Miorana.

Sammy was born in New Orleans, La. and lived in Chalmette until 2005 when he moved to Slidell. He worked at Murphy Oil/Valero Oil Refinery for over 39 years and served in the Coast Guard. He was a loyal servant of Free Masonry for over 37 years. Brother Sammy was Post Master of Andrew Jackson Lodge No 428, Arabi, La. and Slidell Lodge No 311, Slidell, La. At the time of his passing he was also District Deputy Grand Master for the 14th District. He was an avid fisherman, baseball player and golfer. Sammy was a member of the Divots Golf Club where he stubbornly and very determinedly tried to master the game. He had a large family, many friends and lodge brothers. Some called him Sammy, many more called him Samboh and his grandchildren called him Pops. Regardless of the name, he was well loved and surely will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, September 14th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Masonic Service in Sammy’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. Due to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are required.
