Shirley Borne Lachney

Shirley Borne Lachney, age 83, peacefully passed away on January 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength. Born on April 18, 1942, Shirley spent her life rooted in Braithwaite, Louisiana, a community she proudly called home. To many, she was lovingly known as “Aunt Shirley,” a title that reflected the warmth, care, and familiarity she extended to all.

Shirley was the devoted wife of the late Gene Raymond Lachney Sr., with whom she shared a life built on love. Shirley found her greatest joys in the simple pleasures of life, tending to her garden, where her nurturing spirit bloomed alongside her flowers, and cooking meals that brought family together around the table.

The youngest of fourteen siblings, Shirley grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She was preceded by and shared lifelong bonds with her siblings: Carroll, Sidney, Violet, Patsy, Rosemary, Harold, Norman, Lilly May, Lloyd, Donald, Ray, Marvin, and Gerald.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Gene Raymond Lachney Jr., and her treasured grandchild, Logan Michael Lachney, who affectionately called her “Nay Nay.” Their bond was one of pure love and joy, filled with tender moments that will be forever held close. Shirley’s role as a grandmother brought her immense pride and happiness, and Logan was the light of her later years.

Though Shirley may have left this world, her love, kindness, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will continue to grow, much like the gardens she so lovingly tended, rooted in love and forever blooming.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shirley’s life and honor her memory at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, located at 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA 70043. Visitation will be held on January 17, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A committal service will take place later that day at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Rd, Louisiana, LA 70085.
