On September 17th, 2024 Coulam Thomas Monk passed away in Gilbert, Arizona, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born on August 24, 1934, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Coulam married his high school sweetheart and doubles tennis partner, Janis Marlene Edwards, when he was only eighteen years old. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 4, 1953. He loved Janis deeply and was an incredibly attentive and loyal husband.
After his oldest son Brad was born, Coulam had a strong desire to be a good father and to set a good example for his son. He attended dental school in Oregon and went on to run a successful dental practice in Tempe, Arizona. Getting a good education became one of Coulam’s passions and a lesson he wanted to teach his posterity.
Coulam enjoyed riding horses, skiing, snowmobiling, and spending time in Durango, Colorado. However, his greatest joy in life came from spending time with his family. He was a loving and dedicated caretaker for Janis and his youngest son Keith for decades. Coulam also loved spending time with his two granddaughters, Stephanie and Amanda. He never knew his grandparents and made it his life mission to build strong bonds with his two granddaughters. He valued these family relationships above all else.
Coulam was also a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life. His unwavering faith and belief in God were evident in everything he did. He looked forward to the day when he could be reunited with his beloved wife, Janis.
Coulam survived by his two sons, Bradley James Monk and Keith Alan Monk, his two granddaughters Stephanie Helen Bleak (Nathan) and Amanda Marlene Phillippi (Brian), and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Janis Marlene Edwards Monk.
A memorial graveside service will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, 420 South 400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah at 10:30 am on Saturday October 5, 2024.
