David was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 12, 1950 to John and Alice Veit. David spent most of his life in Upper Darby Havertown, Pennsylvania and graduated from Upper Darby High School. He later attended Peirce Business School and graduated in 1960. David joined the U.S. Navy on August 28, 1962 and was honorably discharged on July 22, 1964. He loved to tell people that he was assigned to a ship that was part of the blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
David was an avid stamp collector and was a member of a stamp club that eventually aged out and disbanded. He loved traveling with his Uncle David, and his world travels took him to South Africa, Japan and South America. David’s nephew, John who has been his caretaker since March 2000 remembers driving up to New York City to see David and his parents off on The Queen Mary, the largest ship in the world at the time.
David never married and had always taken care of his mother, Alice, right to the very end. He continued to live in the same home. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Veit; older brother John Veit Jr. He is survived by his nieces and nephews John, Mark, Gwen and Jean.
A service, date TBD, will be held for David in October by the Pastor for the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, AZ. David will be placed in the Friends South Western Burial Ground at 236 Powell Lane, Upper Darby, PA 19082.
John Veit III and family members would like to express their gratitude to Kurt & Joan Schafer in bringing to their attention that David was living alone with his Parkinson’s. After receiving a call from Joan, John went to Upper Darby and brought his Uncle David back to Sun Lakes, AZ and placed him in a care home close to his own home so he could care for him.
Fond memories and condolences can be sent to John Veit, 25261 S Hollygreen Dr, Sun Lakes AZ 85248
