Dolly M. Clark, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018 with her husband Jack (John D. Clark, Jr.) by her side. She had fought an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease prior to her death. She is survived by sons John Jeffrey Clark of San Diego, CA, and Adam Andrew Clark of Chandler, AZ. Other survivors include daughter-in-law Anne Marino, daughter-in-law Renee Clark, sister Connie Vendor, and brother-in-law Art Vendor.
Dolly was born September 17, 1935 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was raised and graduated from high school in Laguna Beach, CA. After graduating from high school, Dolly attended and graduated cum laude in 1957 from Pomona College, one of the Claremont colleges. While at Pomona, Dolly was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa for her academic achievements. Dolly majored in Spanish and became fluent. After graduation she participated in an Experiment in International Living in Zaragoza, Spain.
Following her return to the U.S., she then joined the federal government in Washington, D.C., where she was able to utilize her language skills. There she met and married Jack, a recent law graduate, who became her husband of 58 years. Dolly devoted the best years of her life as a stay-at-home mom, lovingly raising their sons Jeff and Andy. Her hard work over the years resulted in her sons receiving a proper foundation for their lives.
After raising their sons, Dolly and Jack moved to the Phoenix area where they have lived for the past 32 years. There she became an avid gardener and was from time-to-time a garden writer. She was recognized as a Master Gardener by Maricopa County and University of Arizona Extension and assisted as a volunteer at the Desert Botanical Garden.
In later years, Dolly worked as the office manager for her husband’s law office in Tempe, AZ, until they retired in 2012.
She will be greatly missed.
