

Dolores “Dee” Ann Winchell, 82, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away on April 17, 2015. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Winchell, and her parents, Stanley and Genevieve (Adomenas) Kernagis.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Jeanine Davis, Karen Winchell, Terrie Green, and Mary Mazzochi; her son Joseph Winchell, 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; her sisters Patricia Koralewicz, Lori Wellington and Geri Masini; her brothers Robert Kernagis, Richard Kernagis and Larry Kernagis, and many nieces and nephews.
Dee was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 29, 1932. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950 and began work at United Airlines as an administrative assistant. Dee married Bill in 1951 in Chicago, Illinois and they were happily married for 63 years. Dee & Bill were also part of the expatriate community, working long-term assignments in Brazil, Japan, Egypt, and Sri Lanka. Dee was devoted to her faith, family and friends as she cared deeply for everyone she knew. Dee was always willing to help out someone in need. She was a pillar of strength and support to all those who touched her life.
Dee was a member of St. Steven’s Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, Arizona. She was an active member in their prayer line ministry, member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, member and previous President of the Ladies Guild, and gave graciously of her time and support for the many seasons and events at St. Steven’s parish. She was a generous provider to Society of St Vincent de Paul, Food for the Poor, Catholic Relief Services International, as well as local chapters that supported the homeless and expectant mothers.
A visitation/prayer service will be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 East Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248 on Tuesday, April 28th from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, officiated by Deacon Richard Corwin of St. Steven’s parish.
The funeral service will be held at St. Steven’s Catholic Church, 24827 South Dobson Road in Sun Lakes, Arizona, 85249, on Wednesday, April 29th at 10:00 am, officiated by Father Eric Houseknecht. A reception will take place in St. Steven’s parish hall following the funeral service at 11:00 am. Burial Ceremony to follow reception at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 East Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248 at 1:30 pm, officiated by Deacon Richard Corwin of St. Steven’s parish. The Winchell family wishes to extend their gratitude to her caregivers from Griswold Family Home Care and Banner Hospice for their attentiveness and caring support in her final days.
The family also asks that those who were fortunate enough to be graced by Dee’s charm, delight, and unending sense of humor; to celebrate her life in their own way. The beautiful memories of Dee and Bill will continue to live on through the spirit of those they survived.
