She was born in Jewell County, Kansas December 23, 1937. Ede graduated from Jewell Rural High School. She then attended college at Emporia State University (Kansas), earning a BS in Elementary Education. Soon, she returned to Emporia State and earned a Masters in Library Science. Finding her true passion in the library, she moved to Scottsdale, AZ to begin her career as a librarian in both the public and school settings.
She married James Hoy Beveridge, Jr. on June 29, 1968. They married in Jewell, Kansas, but made their home in Mesa, Arizona. She became a homemaker with the birth of her children, but eventually returned to the school library setting at the elementary school her daughters attended. She also taught piano out of the home for over 20 years. Ede loved her family, music, learning, and was deeply religious. In her youth, she was active in school and church; singing solos and playing organ for church services and was a cheerleader for the high school basketball team. In college, she was an active member of her sorority, Pi Kappa Sigma. One of her favorite adventures was her trip to Scotland with her two daughters to visit the land and home of her Hunter ancestors. She loved watching Jeopardy, discussing current affairs, and was a basketball enthusiast. Above all, she loved the Lord.
She was a member for several years of Central Christian Church of Mesa, attending church in her later years at Palm Canyon Assembly. Ede was an excellent example of a mother’s love and a Godly woman and was the best mom we could have hoped for. She had an opinion and a scripture verse for everything!
She is survived by her spouse, Jim, and two daughters, Jamie Swaim (Darcy) and Jonna Copalman (Joe). She has 5 grandchildren, Payton Swaim, Aubrey Chitwood (Bradley), Riley Swaim, Nora Copalman, and James Copalman. She has two great-grandchildren, Ikaika Swaim and Chloe Swaim, with another great-grandchild, Athena Chitwood, on the way; as well as several nieces and a nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her three siblings Venda Doxon, Richard Hunter, and Melva Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in Ede's name to either The Sunshine Acres Children's Home (www.sunshineacres.org) or the Emporia State University Foundation (www.emporia.edu).
