and Annetta Domenico. He died November 28, 2020, age 82, at his home in
Chandler, Arizona, surrounded by his family including his wife of 55 years, Judy
Hughes Domenico. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, John,
and survived by his wife, Judy, three children, Steven, Lisa, and Jennifer (and husband
Greg). Ed is also survived by his grandchildren, James, Caroline, Noah and Brendan,
brother-in-law, Tom, sister-in-law, Mary Lou, and niece and nephews Jennifer , Bob
and Jim.
Ed attended the St. Louis Catholic School in Louisville and Regis High School in
Denver and graduated from Louisville High School in 1955. He earned degrees from
Trinidad State Junior College and Colorado State College (University of Northern
Colorado). While attending Trinidad State Junior College, Ed played on the basketball
team and was known as “the Tiny Trojan Hustler.” He served for six years in the
Field Artillery Unit of the Colorado Army National Guard. Ed devoted his
professional career to public education, serving in the Mapleton Public School System
for 36 years as a teacher and counselor and coaching middle school football and
basketball.
Ed married Judy Hughes in July of 1965 in Trinidad, Colorado and they moved to
Northglenn in 1966 where they raised their three children.
Ed became an unofficial then official Louisville historian. First, Ed became a seasoned
bartender at the famous Colacci’s restaurant in Louisville. He loved talking to
customers about Louisville and spoke of the town’s history. Later, Ed volunteered for
the Louisville Historical Society where he provided history about former residents and
gave tours of his beloved hometown.
Ed proudly belonged to clubs no matter where he lived. Ed was a member of
Lafayette Masonic Lodge #91 and the Order of Eastern Star Excelsior Chapter #66 in
Lafayette, Colorado. He also served on the Executive Board of International Order of
Rainbow for Girls for the State of Colorado. He was also a longstanding member of
the Louisville Italian Club.
Ed and Judy retired to Chandler, Arizona in 2003 and developed many lasting
friendships and in true Ed fashion, he did not know a stranger. His organizational
affiliations continued with the Solera Columbus Club—he was very proud of his
Italian heritage—, the Solera Classic Car Club where he proudly displayed his beloved
T-Bird, and the Solera Men’s Club.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date at the St. Louis Catholic Church
in Louisville, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made
in honor of Ed to Louisville Historical Museum or Hospice of the Valley in
Phoenix, Arizona.
