

Ernie Marquez of Chandler Arizona passed away peacefully on Friday evening March 28, 2025 at the age of 88. Ernie was born in Los Angeles California on July 8, 1936 where he lived with his parents and older brother. After graduating from Garfield High School, he joined the United States Army. During his service he trained to become a medic and became a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne. After returning from the service, he met his soul mate and lifelong partner Gail Spargur. The two were married on August 11, 1960 in Los Angeles. They lived in California for several years and had two daughters. Ernie and his family moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1979 and Arizona became their home for the remainder of his life. Ernie and Gail were married for 63 years until her passing in 2023.
Ernie had a long and successful sales career in the microscope industry working for American Optical, Nikon and Olympus. Ernie loved to travel with his wife, friends and family whenever he could. His favorite adventures were visiting wineries with his longtime friends, or fishing and enjoying the sites in Cancun. He was a devoted father and had a big heart, always there to help family and friends in need. Ernie was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for several church ministries throughout his life.
Ernie is survived by his daughters Cindy Renteria, Lisa Longbrake, son in law Dan Longbrake and his 5 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St Andrew’s the Apostle Church, 3450 W. Ray Road, Chandler, AZ 85226 on Thursday April 24th at 10:30 am.
