Gary C. Fischer , 86, formerly of Page, Arizona went to be with the Lord April 14, 2015. He was born October 6, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Frank & Edna Fischer. During his teenage years, Gary relocated to Prescott, Arizona where he worked as a ranch hand while completing his education. He was inducted into military service in 1950 serving 2 years as Gunner in the 140th Tank Battalion in the Korean conflict, where he received a field promotion to Sergeant. Gary was extremely proud to serve his country and many lifelong friendships were gained during his time in the service.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Phoenix, Arizona where he completed business college and met Dele, the love of his life. in 1954. They were married that same year eventually settling in Prescott to begin their family of four children - Cathy, Carolyn, Carl and Charlie. In 1971 they relocated to Chandler where they lived for 33 years. Gary was very proud of his children and fully enjoyed taking the entire family camping, fishing and water skiing as often as possible - he also had a great love of rollercoasters, the bigger the better!
Gary’s main occupation was as a manager in the lumber and hardware business, and he worked for several different companies in this capacity over the years. Upon retirement in 2003, they moved to Page, Arizona to enjoy their golden years in a small community where they could remain close to family. But even then, Gary continued working part time at Boston’s Tru-Value which he enjoyed immensely. He was always happiest when working or helping someone - especially if it involved painting!
Gary was always known for his desire to help others, especially in his service to the Lord. He was an active member in Central Baptist Church (Faith Community), serving as a Deacon and member of the missions committee, where the church became like family and most of them actually were family! He most recently attended First Baptist Church in Page, Arizona. His faith in Jesus Christ was the mainstay of his life, and brought him through good times and bad.
In 2013, Gary was moved into a fulltime memory care facility in Chandler where he was regularly pampered by daughter Carolyn and granddaughter Mattison - there he continued to minister to the staff and residents in many ways to the very end.
Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dele and children Carl (Maria) Fischer, Charlie Fischer, Carolyn Fischer, and Cathy (Tony) Gomez - along with 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply.
