AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Georgia Margaret Mather

21 septembre 1946 – 7 avril 2023
Avis de décès de Georgia Margaret Mather
AUX SOINS DE

Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery

Georgia Margaret Mather passed away quietly in the comfort of her home, in Chandler, AZ, on Good Friday, April 7, 2023.

She was born in Taunton, Mass., on September 21, 1946, to George and Marion Trefethen. The second of three daughters, she often reminisced over helping her father out around the family farm. She was the first in her family to attend college and graduated at the top of her class.

On her way to school, she met the love of her life – a city boy from Pawtucket, R.I., Allan N. Mather – after sharing in a mutual displeasure over a fellow train commuter. Following their wedding, for more than a year, Georgia drove to Virginia regularly to visit Al while he honorably served in Army intelligence.

In the 1970s, they moved to Hudson, N.H., where they had their “miracle baby” a couple years later in 1981 - Marc Allan Mather. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Bedford, N.H., where they lived for more than 14 years. During this time, they soaked up summers at the family lake house in Maine, and they caught up on the day over cookies and tea after school. These were golden years that she and Al fondly recalled for decades.

In 2000, Georgia and Al relocated to Chandler, Ariz., to be closer to where Marc attended college, and they spent more than 20 wonderful years together in retirement.

Georgia was a dog lover and avid walker – she spent most mornings before the sun came up walking with her “best friend,” Bailey, before he preceded her in death in 2019. She was generous with those she loved, and spent much of her time caring for those closest to her.

Her family – Al, Marc, his wife, Kari, and grandson Trey – will miss her tremendous love. The daily messages, newspaper comic clippings, and kind gestures like baking the best brownies and meatloaf ever will never be forgotten. She is also survived by her sister Jen (Mike), nieces Jenny-Alice (Kevin) and Susan, and preceded in death by her parents and sister, Pat.

In lieu of flowers or a memorial, the family asks that you take a moment to remember Georgia in your own way, because that’s what she would have wanted.
