James was born in Leavenworth, WA on March 19, 1942. He was the seventh of nine children born to Kenneth and Mabel Lloyd. He is survived by two sisters (Barbara Fallis, Debra Donitech) and a brother (Ronald Lloyd).
James attended high school in Wenatchee. He enlisted and served in the US Army from 1965-1969. He was stationed in Germany. He later attended Eastern Washington University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree.
While donning lederhosen at a Spokane hockey game, Jim met Janice Nelson. They married Oct. 23, 1970, and would be married for 52 years! Together they had 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
A natural conversationalist, Jim made a successful career in sales, working for companies like Shasta and Lever Bros. Eventually, he would work for Unilever for 2 decades. His sales territory included much of the western United States, including Alaska.
Jim and Jan lived in various locations throughout western Washington, eventually settling in Bellevue, WA to raise their family. Once the kids had grown, Jim and Jan moved for a brief time to Scottsdale, AZ. It was not long before they returned to WA. This time to Wenatchee. This move kept them close to their daughter and her growing family. Retirement was a time for Jim to reconnect with some of his roots in Wenatchee as well as revisit many childhood friendships that had stood the test of time. He also discovered he was pretty good at racquetball. In 2016 Jim and Jan moved to their final residence in Sun Lakes, AZ. This time he was closer to his son’s family. In true Jim Lloyd fashion, he became friends with many neighbors and continued improving his racquetball game, even into his 80th year!
James enjoyed travel to Alaska to fish, and especially to Europe where he enjoyed traveling Germany. Jim loved music. He loved jazz, classical, worship, standards, Spanish guitar, opera…the list goes on. He would make mixed tapes, later CD’s and most recently, playlists for any and every occasion. This is a love and a hobby he passed down to both his kids. Another great joy in Jim’s life was watching the annual bicycle competition, Le Tour De France. What began as a family tradition in the 80’s has continued, with his grandkids even tuning in every summer to watch. James took interest in politics and humor and enjoyed sharing his opinions and jokes with any friends and family that would listen.
Jim was a lifelong friend to many, a wonderful father, and a beloved husband. He will be remembered for his strength of character, quiet generosity, and unapologetic faith. He will be greatly missed.
James D Lloyd leaves behind his lovely wife, Jan, son Connor (Kim) Lloyd, and daughter Kristie (Jeff) Nienaber. He loved his grandkids and was so proud of each of them. (Sam Lloyd, Evelyn, Abigail, and Sofia Nienaber)
The family plans to celebrate Jim’s life in September.
