Janice Ruth (Jackson) Swan was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on April 30, 1942 to parents Raymond and Ellen Jackson. Jan lived in Grand Junction for a brief time before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado and then to Salt Lake City, Utah. At the age of seven, Jan moved to Arizona, and she called it home for the next seventy-six years.
Jan attended Phoenix Christian High School and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education from Arizona State University. She became an elementary school teacher, and later, a junior high school teacher, working in the Tempe Elementary School District for more than 30 years. She later continued her teaching career at Tempe Preparatory Academy prior to her retirement.
Jan served in numerous churches by using her gift of music. She was either a church organist or pianist for more than forty years. Jan also volunteered at several assisted living and memory care facilities as well.
Jan was preceded in death by both of her parents, Raymond and Ellen Jackson, and her husband, Brinson Swan. She is survived by her children - Ryan (April) Rosscup, Robyn (Dave) Bellerson, her five grandchildren - Bailey, Brandon, Kaitlyn, Brayden, and Makayla, and her five great-grandchildren - Delilah, Iris, Phoebe, Tova, and Florence.
Jan knew Jesus as her personal Savior, and His gift of salvation was her greatest treasure. We take great comfort in knowing that she will spend the rest of eternity with the Savior she loved.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things but you surpass them all.”
