Janis loved her two boys and would do anything for them. A fun memory was when we went to Durango and Keith arranged for horse drawn buggy rides and Janis was right there woth him.

I have to go Feed the Horses NOW!  
Around 12 to 14 years ago my son Kyle and his wife Jill lived in Lakeshore and Lynn and I lived in Woodland Hills.  Kyle and Jill had gone out of town and I was going to feed their horses while they were gone.  On Sunday afternoon after lunch was over and dishes done, Lynn and I were just laying on the couches resting when all of the sudden I jumped up and said “I have to go feed the horses NOW”. I didn’t wait for conversation and jumped up got in the car and headed for Lakeshore.  I had been to Kyle and Jill’s house many times and I knew very well how to get there; but this day the car turned down the wrong road one stop sign too soon and as I turned down the road I could see Aunt Mary’s house and could see Coulam helping Janis into the car and Keith and Mary were standing nearby.  Of course I stopped the car for hugs and conversation.  Coulam said they were just on their way over to Spanish Fork Cemetery to look at buriel plots did I want to come.  Of course I did! That’s exactly why the spirit took me down the wrong road at just exactly the precise time to spot Coulam and Janis in Mary’s driveway.  Any difference in timing or direction would not have yielded this result.  So we went to the. Cemetery and looked at the gravesite of Tom and Chloe Monk, Coulam’s father and Mother, and others in the family.  So we decided that tomorrow at a given time Lynn and I and Coulam, Janis and Keith would meet at the cemetery to talk to the sextant and find out which plots were available.  This we did and chose several plots for each of us nearby one another.  We had lunch afterwards and it proved to be a wonderful afternoon.
I have learned from this and other experiences that the spirit often speaks to me in a clear and concise way like that and it is most important that I recognize it as such usually because it is not what I’m thinking at the time.  

I grew up with Brad and spent lots of time at his house, so Janice was like a second mother.  She was good to impart her wisdom to us whether it was how to study hard in school or how to treat our girlfriends.  Before we could drive, she would pleasantly chauffeur us around.  I remember once when she dropped us off at a dance and said, “Oh, the girls will be so lucky to dance with you boys.  You are all so handsome.”  She was always positive and happy.  Brad and the rest of us could come in from the pool and drip water all over the house and Janice would never complain, she just followed us around cleaning up our wet footprints. She was a wonderful example of how to always being happy.  Janice will be missed.

We have had the sweet privilege of knowing Janis for only the past 8 years as we live in the same neighborhood and we attended the same ward for most of that time.  Janis was such a delightful and happy soul.  She would brighten up the room with here wonderful smiles and glowing countenance.  We will greatly miss her but we know she has passed on to prepare a place for her beloved family to join her in the loving arms of the Savior,  Jesus Christ.  Rest In Peace dearest Janis. 

          Janice loved people.  Everyone!  Everywhere she went she made friends out of enemies.


          In 1996 my son was getting married in the Mesa Temple.  The situation was a bit awkward since my former mother-in-law, Etta felt I didn't belong at the wedding.


          I flew in to Mesa at the last possible minute.  When I arrived in the chapel at the temple, everyone else was already there.  I was relieved to slip in next to Janis to sit behind my former in-laws. Janis was bubbling all over.  She was so excited to be there and to be making peace.


         Janis welcomed me and introduced me to everyone sitting in front of us who she had met just moments before. She introduced them even though I already knew all of them.  Janis was breaking the ice.  She touched each one of them on the back saying, "This is Etta and Wayne and Dave and . . ."  She went on telling what she knew about each one of them and touching them repeatedly on the back as she told about them.  Etta cringed each time Janis spoke of her, but Janis took no notice.


          As we filed out of the chapel going to the ordinance room, I was the last person behind Janis.  Janis stopped suddenly and whirled around to face me. 

          She said, "I'm going to KILL them! Every one of them.  Right here, IN THE TEMPLE.  With LOVE!"   Janis absolutely ignored their cold shoulder.


          Outside of the temple Janis went around with her camera, creating groups and taking pictures. She included everyone, deliberately making awkward photo groups.  (Picture me with my ex-husband's second wife.) Janis created so much positive energy there wasn't room for any cold shoulders in that gathering.


          26 years late - Thank you, Janis.

I have so many happy memories of "the good 'ole days" as we laughed together and discussed all sorts of events of the day.  I am thankful for her example as we served together in many church callings and activities.  Janis has the best smile and always made me laugh.  What a precious friend she will always be to me!

All the time I worked for Dr. Monk, Janis was such a sweet, wonderful woman and I loved her vibrant smile and personality. I never saw her without a smile and she was always so interested in my life and what I was doing outside of work. She and Dr. Monk were instrumental in my conversion to LDS, and after I moved away I always received a lovely, handwritten Christmas card until she became ill. I'm sure she will be missed by so many people. She was a lovely person.
