Jorge “George” Cuenca, 59, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away at his residence on August 21, 2020 after a nine-month battle with Glioblastoma. George was born in Cordoba, Argentina to Jorge and Nelida Cuenca. At a very young age, George’s parents moved to Santa Monica, California. That is where George grew up along with his younger brother Roger. George spent a lot of time caring for his brother, who was mentally disabled, resulting in the family being very close. From a young age, he learned that family meant everything.
George graduated from Pepperdine University where he played baseball and tennis. George and Paulette met at a picnic at the Rose Bowl through a mutual friend. The two of them were inseparable right away and recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Together they raised three sons, whom George was extremely proud of.
George worked as a sales executive for nearly twenty years in advertising. He spent the most recent years driving a school bus and loved being around students. He enjoyed coaching many kids in baseball and insisted on giving them all nicknames – which many still go by today. As his own boys grew out of the game, George continued to be involved with youth baseball by becoming an official umpire.
The first thought that comes to mind when reminiscing about George was his natural gift to make people laugh. His personality was larger than life with his rich sense of humor and spot-on voice impressions. Many would claim that his true calling was to be an entertainer. George had a huge heart. His generosity knew no bounds and he would go out of his way to help anyone in need.
George’s memory lives on through his wife, Paulette, his sons, Griffin, Ryan, and Dylan, his aunt, Susie Pipan, and his father in law, Les Claassen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jorge and Nelida, and his brother, Roger.
