Lloyd William Zimmerman was born on June 9, 1926, Amenia, ND to William and Clara (Wolff) Zimmerman. Lloyd graduated from Arthur High School and attended Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota where he sang in the Concordia College Choir. He joined the Navy (Navigator) where he was stationed in the South Pacific and participated in the Bikini Atol atomic bomb testing during WWII.
Lloyd was a lifelong Lutheran and was very active in St John’s Lutheran Church in Arthur, ND. He taught Sunday School, served on the Church Council and taught the Bethel Bible Study course. In later years after he moved to Sun Lakes, AZ he was a member at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Tempe, AZ.
He married Margaret (Viestenz) on February 16, 1947. They had three children: Stan Zimmerman, Joan Zimmerman and Margy Hansen.
Lloyd farmed most of his life around the Amenia, North Dakota area. He also served as the President of the Arthur School Board, and served on many different committees. He was one of the founding members of the Red River Valley Cooperative in Hillsboro, ND from 1972 – 1975. This was the first cooperative beet sugar manufacturer in North America. He retired in 1976 from farming and moved to Arizona.
Lloyd married Robin Berkey in 1983 and embarked on a journey of real estate development in Arizona and Texas. After his second retirement in 2012 he resided with Robin in Sun Lakes, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Clara Zimmerman; brothers, Wilmer Zimmerman, Walter Zimmerman, Melvin Zimmerman and Lester Zimmerman; sister, Lorna Longlet.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Zimmerman, his son Stan Zimmerman of San Antonio, TX and his two daughters Joan (Michael Mazzatenta) Zimmerman of Corpus Christi, TX and Margy (Robert) Hansen of Mesa, AZ along with 9 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on December 21st at 3:00 at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler AZ. Condolences may be expressed at www.valleyofthesunfuneralhome.com
