Lola Faye Hostetler (née Decker), age 88, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in Chandler, Arizona. Born on November 1, 1937, in Newton, Kansas, Lola lived a life marked by unwavering faith, steadfast devotion to her family, and a heart for service.
Lola was the beloved wife of Donald Keith Hostetler for 66 years until his passing. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and community. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Candice and Timothy Rice, Marcia and Dave Charles, Patrick and Marla Hostetler. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren—Christopher, Cory, Thomas, Hannah, Nick, Hayden, Chandler, Emma and Lily—and four great-grandchildren: Connor, Elijah, Mia, and Rochelle. She is also survived by her brother Bryan Decker. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Frances Decker, as well as her brothers Glennon and Gymler.
Lola’s professional life was deeply rooted in her church community. She served as the first executive church secretary at Bethany Community Church (BCC), which later united with Sun Valley Community Church. Her dedication extended beyond administrative duties; she became an integral part of the youth division at BCC, serving as secretary to youth pastors Bob Speizer, Rick Roberts, and Dennis McMains. Her work supported the spiritual growth of countless young people over the years.
Even after retirement, Lola’s commitment to nurturing young minds continued. For fifteen consecutive years, she volunteered in her daughter’s kindergarten classroom at Kyrene de la Estrella Elementary School. There she read stories to eager young learners, brought math to life alongside Zero the Hero with “mathmagical” lessons, and cooked everything from pancakes to fried rice for always-hungry five-year-olds. Her presence in the classroom left an indelible mark on hundreds of children.
Lola’s faith was not just a part of her life—it was the foundation of it. She believed deeply in the saving power of professing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and longed for others to come to know Him as she did. As she neared the end of her earthly journey, she found peace in the promise that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
She lived out her beliefs through action—singing in the church choir, greeting newcomers with warmth through Sun Valley Community Church’s hospitality ministry, and engaging in Bible study both individually and with others. Her prayer life was powerful; many found comfort knowing Lola was lifting them up in prayer during times of need.
In addition to her spiritual pursuits, Lola delighted in simple pleasures that reflected her creative spirit and sharp mind. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles alike. A talented seamstress and scrapbooker, she preserved memories with care and artistry. In the kitchen, she was known as an exceptional cook who poured love into every dish she prepared.
Those who knew Lola speak of her quiet strength and tenacity—qualities that defined her character along with integrity and kindness. She was a devoted friend to many and a source of encouragement to all who crossed her path.
A private interment ceremony for immediate family will take place at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery on December 31st at 10 a.m. A public celebration of life is being planned for early February to honor Lola’s remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, gifts and remembrances may be made in Lola’s name to either the Sun Valley Community Church camp fund or to Kyrene del Milenio Kindergarten Inside Out Classroom—two places where her legacy of love continues to inspire.
May Lola Faye Hostetler’s memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
