Born in Mesa, Arizona, Lorraine was the daughter of Antonia Bourquin Waffen and Harold Bourquin. She grew up in Mesa and graduated from Dobson High School. During her high school years, she also attended cosmetology school, developing a talent for cutting hair that she shared with friends and family throughout her life.
Lorraine spent much of her early life in Mesa before making Austin her home for the past 19 years. She was an entrepreneur at heart, owning and operating two businesses—one focused on homemade salsa and another centered around gourmet pasta. She poured her energy, creativity, and determination into these ventures, taking great pride in building something of her own.
She had a deep love for animals, especially cats, and was known for her caring spirit, warm smile, and a laughter that came easily and often. Lorraine had a way of making those around her feel welcome and at ease.
Lorraine is survived by her brother, Harold Bourquin; her daughter, Adrianna, whom she placed for adoption at birth and carried in her heart every day of her life—there was not a day that passed that she did not think of Adrianna or hold hope for a future reunion; and her extended family, including her cousin, Cheryl Perea. She shared a special bond with Harold’s children—Patrick, Teresa, and Ceara—who held a meaningful place in her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Antonia Bourquin Waffen; her father, Harold Bourquin; her sister, Lorrie Ann Rowe; and her brother, Tony Bourquin.
In June of 2023, Lorraine entered memory care, where she lived for the final two and a half years of her life. In her final years, she was supported by her cousin Cheryl Perea, who spent meaningful time with her and ensured she remained connected to family. She also formed meaningful connections with her caregivers, whose presence provided comfort, dignity, and companionship as she endured the effects of this devastating disease.
Those who knew Lorraine will remember her as loving, resilient, and full of heart. She will be deeply missed.
