

Margaret Louise Walker (Hood), 90, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away July 21, 2020. Margaret was born January 24, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio. From 1930—1935 the family lived on Grandma Hood’s (Mae Hood) farm near Neapolis, Ohio; near Toledo. From 1935—1939 the family lived in Saginaw, Michigan. Margaret had fond memories of the house, school, and her sister, Pat. From 1939—1945 the family lived in Mooresville, Indiana. She remembered those years as fun and loving (age 9—15). In October 1945, the family moved to California. She began to feel that college could be a reality. In 1947 she graduated from high school and in 1949 she entered Nursing school. She was in a diploma program which meant that students lived on hospital grounds Monday thru Friday and went home on the weekends. She was married to Boyd Walker in 1951. While raising a family, Margaret attended Long Beach College and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Later she attended UCLA to become a school Nurse Practitioner. Margaret retired from her nursing career in 1992.
Margaret loved to sing and in 1970 joined the choral group 'The Choristers'. She continued singing for the rest of her life and actually recorded her music as a member of the 'East Valley Chorale'.
Family and friends were Margaret’s joy. She grew up spending holidays with family. Margaret shared a love of sports with her son Jerry, and her son Jim’s cooking abilities. Jim was a master of the barbecue. Diana, her daughter, shared the nursing experience with Margaret. They spoke to each other daily and spent the weekends together.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Diana, her son Jerry, her beloved sister (Mary Jane), daugher-in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her son, Jim, and other family members and friends.
Because of the Covid pandemic, her funeral service was limited to immediate family only due to attendance restrictions. The service was held on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona, 85248.
