

Mary Kay Sanders was born October 20,1953, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Helen and Archie Sanders. She graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in 1972. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mankato State University in 1975 and a Master’s Degree from University of North Dakota in 1992. Mary taught at Northland Community and Technical College for 32 years where she touched the lives of many students until her retirement in 2012.
Mary married Chuck Hanson June 11, 1977, and they were blessed with three children Kyle, Heidi, and Derek. Mary enjoyed time with her family at her children’s school and sporting events, UND hockey games, time at Big Elbow Lake, and traveling.
Mary married Richard (Rick) Coss on March 13, 2005, in St. John, United States Virgin Island. After retiring, they moved to Mesa, Arizona, where they enjoyed traveling, Arizona State University Hockey (as long as they weren’t playing University of North Dakota), spending time with their family and friends as well as their two pups Sophie and Ellie.
Mary is survived by her husband Richard Coss of Mesa, AZ, son Kyle Hanson of East Grand Forks, MN, daughter Heidi Hanson of Gilbert, AZ, son Derek (Kellie) Hanson of Fargo, ND, grandchildren Lennon Bouvette of Grand Forks, ND, Lucy and Gordie Hanson of Fargo, ND, her mother Helen Sanders of Gilbert, AZ, her five siblings JoAnn (Lawrence) Polman of Anthem, AZ, Barbara (Frank) Young of Gilbert, AZ, Randy (Jeanne) Sanders of Chandler, AZ, Lori (Bryan) Payne of Temple Terrace, FL, and John (Dana) Sanders of Cloquet, MN, mother-in-law Natalie Coss, sister-in-law Mary Rydell as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery in Chandler, AZ, on Tuesday, July 8th at 10:00 am.
