Michael Craig Huston, a resident of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the age of 85. Mike was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on November 25, 1939, to Elmo John Huston and Elva Lee (Pat) Flannigan.
As a youth, Mike spent many happy years in Aberdeen, Washington, where his family owned and operated a jewelry store. As a teenager, he moved to Iraq where his dad worked in the oil industry. For high school, Mike attended the American Community School (ACS) in Beirut, Lebanon. At ACS he was a standout basketball player and by all accounts, a great dancer.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Arizona State University and a business degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona. His early career included roles at Foxboro Company in Foxboro, Massachusetts, followed by Arthur D. Little in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he became an expert in the oil, gas, and energy industries. He authored several books, articles and lectured often at universities and industry conferences.
He spent the second part of his career living his dream life, working for USAID in Mogadishu, Somalia, and the Stanford Research Institute in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mike’s passion was reading history and adventure books and he was able to live out many adventures himself. During his lifetime he traveled to over 55 countries, preferring places off the beaten path, photographing and describing his experiences in letters to his 3 daughters who were sometimes fortunate to join him. In retirement, he fulfilled a passion for cruising and spending time in his RV in the American Southwest.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Christine Karaberis (Robillard) with whom he shared countless adventures and world travels. He is survived by three daughters from his first marriage to Camilla Booth (Noyes): Shawn Kenner (Craig), Tracy Huston (Raimondo Briata), Camilla Chaplick (Scott), and 5 grandchildren. He has been laid to rest at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery in Chandler, Arizona.
