Nancy’s life was marked by a steady compassion and an openhanded generosity that made others feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. She carried herself with quiet grace, and her kind heart found its clearest expression in the way she showed up for people—especially children—offering encouragement, reassurance, and a sincere belief in their worth.
Nancy always wanted to be a mom, and raising her children was her true joy. She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Ruth Hodson, her sister Sharon Hodson, and her brother Bill Hodson. Nancy is survived by her children Lauren Back and Anthony Giordano, Karin and Brian Evans, Charlie Back and Megan Corbett along with her grandchildren Harrison O'Connor, Decker Evans, and Dylan Evans.
A bird watcher at heart, Nancy also loved theater and dance, and she delighted in entertaining—often in a home where cooking came with the familiar laughter of kids sneaking tastes meant for dinner. She cherished time with her grandchildren and truly, absolutely loved them, finding in those moments the happiness she held most dear.
Nancy’s generosity extended beyond her home and into the wider community. Through the Tempe City Library, she created and ran programs that paired students with mentors in their chosen possible career paths—an enduring reflection of her belief in young people and her desire to help them find direction, confidence, and opportunity. Her impact on the children she encountered throughout her life was lasting, shaped by the care she gave so freely and the love she made sure they could feel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Childsplay Theater Inc. of Tempe, AZ.
