Born on October 6, 1950 and raised in Hobart, Indiana. Randy was a talented baseball and football player in high school and had some options for higher education. He decided to play baseball at Indiana University, but after his mother, Eunice, opened his acceptance letter to West Point Military Academy, it was decided he would go off to protect the Hudson River Valley from the Communists. After 2 years of highs and lows, including being caught with contraband (sneaking 13 pizzas in from the fire road for starving plebes), Randy decided the military was not a good fit. He moved on to receive his bachelors degree from Indiana University on a cold December day. Being a very bright young man, he decided he could be unemployed in Indiana, or in sunny Arizona with his good friend, Joe Sandor. He soon picked up a job at Motorola working in the new and fast growing semiconductor sector where he quickly rose through the ranks. This was his career for 25 years. When asked what exactly his job entailed, Randy would say he got paid a decent amount of money to b yelled at...constantly...by everyone.
On June 28, 1998, he was tired of being single and married Michelle "Chelle" Murray, who laughed with him (and sometimes at him) for the next 26 years.
Randy will be remembered for his love of sports. He was a lifelong Cubs and Bears fan. He wasn't an emotional guy, but on November 2, 2016, he shed a few tears of happiness when his beloved Cubs finally won the world series. As a player, a coach and a fan, he shared his sports expertise, advice and yes, sometimes his money, with friends, family and pretty much anyone who would listen. Randy was also a good friend. His quick wit and humor will be remembered by everyone who knew him. He was also a good listener who would give the best practical advice at the right moment. Randy was there when people needed him...and would stick around for the laughs when they didn't.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, George "Skip" Murray and Eunice Young Murray.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle (Chelle), his brother, Dan Murray and wife Lynn, his neice, Lori (Murray) McAfee, her husband Gerry and their children Cassidy and Nolan.
