Richard William “Dick” Smith, 69, of Maricopa, AZ, passed away suddenly on Sept 11. He loved to meet new people and to tell jokes just to hear a person laugh. He was a giving person and if you mentioned that you liked something that he had, it was yours. He was a “jack of all trades” and loved to build things with his hands. He was known by many as the “zoo man” because of his many years that he worked building and maintaining exhibits at the Phoenix Zoo.
Richard was born in Clinton, Indiana, to William Calvin & Mildred Louise (Davis) Smith. He grew up in Scottland, IL, and returned to visit as often as he could.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia; his children, Tracy (Brian) Galentine of FL and Adam of Phoenix; his grandson, Ethan Galentine; his sister, Darlene Booher, of Metcalf, IL; two sisters-in-law as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruby Stewart.
No services are planned at this time.
