Russell R. Bierley

BIERLEY, Russell R. - age 75, of Sun Lakes, AZ, passed away on October 9, 2010. Russ, the son of Raymond and Hazel Bierley, was born and raised in the Blissfield, MI area. He was a 4-star athlete at Blissfield High and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Toledo where he played basketball and baseball. Russ earned his Bachelor and Master's in Education degrees there. His 33 year coaching and teaching career was mostly in Torrance, CA and he and his family lived in Torrance and Palos Verdes, CA. After retiring, they moved to Sun Lakes, AZ in 1995 where he enjoyed golf and was active in Kiwanis. After being afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, he was a resident at Hawthorne Court in Ahwatukee, AZ for the past 5 years. Russ married Kay Lanz in 1957. They have two children, Brad and Tracey, and four grandchildren, Brett, Lauren, Kelsey and Tyler. Family and friends are invited to attend 1:00 PM Memorial Services October 16, 2010 at the Sun Lakes Methodist Church. Memorial contributions in Russ's name may be made to the University of Toledo Athletic Dept. or the Alzheimer's Association.
