Shelly K Hartley

Shelly was born Shelly Kay Willingham to her mother, Kathryn at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, South Dakota on March 10, 1970. Her adopted father, Darrell R. Scherlie loved, nurtured, and supported her throughout her life.

Shelly attended grade school in North Liberty, Iowa, middle school and early high school years in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and completed her education at Longmont High School in Longmont, Colorado. She served the greater Athens, Georgia area as a licensed Appraiser before moving to Arizona in 2003 where she pursued a twenty-year career as a licensed Realtor. Though she continued to maintain her Real Estate license, in 2019 she accepted the position of Director of Sales and Marketing for a luxury portable restroom trailer company where she remained employed until her passing.

She was passionate about the New England Patriots, loved time with her friends and family, enjoyed paddleboarding, working out at the gym, and caring for animals of all kinds. Her two current loves are Bodhi, her standard poodle, and Chewie, her Labradoodle.

Shelly’s quick wit and zest for life will be missed by friends and family alike. Though her life was shorter than wanted, she hopes that those who loved her will not mourn, but rather celebrate their memories of shared moments.

With courage and hope, Shelly fought the hard battle against breast cancer until the end. She advocated for women to request ultrasound imaging in addition to mammograms. Her wish is that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Cancer Society so that others might be helped.

She is survived by her mother Kathryn and her step-father John Fuller of Chandler, Arizona, her brother Shane R. Scherlie of North Liberty, Iowa, her father Darrell R. Scherlie of Iowa City, Iowa, her half-brother Adam Yeager of Vermillion, South Dakota, her aunt and uncle Joe and Tamra Willingham of Pierre, South Dakota, her aunt and uncle Debbie and Bill Hubbard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, her aunt BetteJo Willingham of Pierre, South Dakota, and her cousins, Jerri and Scott Williams of Pierre, South Dakota.

She is preceded in death by her half-sister Jill Fleming of Valentine, Nebraska, her uncles Wes Willingham of Pierre, South Dakota, and Lee Willingham of Aberdeen, South Dakota, her grandparents Vernyce Willingham and Ewart G. Willingham of Pierre, South Dakota, and Timothy and Doris Scherlie of Pierre, South Dakota.
