

He was born on March 13, 1956 in Liberty, New York to John and Katherine Semo. Steve later graduated from Tri-Valley High School in Grahamsville, New York. He received a football scholarship to and also graduated from Central Iowa University in Pella, Iowa with a degree in Elementary Education. He later received his Master's Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. Steve also received a degree in Administration as well.
He spent nearly his entire teaching career in Coolidge, Arizona where he taught 8th grade math, PE, coached all junior high sports, and served as the girls varsity basketball coach. Steve also taught 4th grade for 10 years, and later served as an administrator in the Coolidge School District. He loved everyone he worked with, and adored all of his students. His daughter, Randi followed her Dad's path in becoming a teacher, and almost every Wednesday, Steve would appear in class to help teach her students over the course of each school year.
Steve married Kim (Ganzer) Semo on August 2, 1980 in Blue Island, Illinois on a 100-degree day with 100% humidity. They met during their first year of teaching in Coolidge. Together they welcomed their daughter, Randi Kay in 1990 and son, Colby Michael in 1992.
Steve loved his children: coaching all of their teams, going on countless vacations including the annual trek back to New York several times a year. He was passionate about his grandchildren, and loved dressing up with them, always putting a costume on when they came over to hang out with their grandpa. His passion was always playing outside with Annabelle, Nate Jr., and Noah Stephen Michael. They lovingly called him, "Gamp" or "Gampa", going on lots treasure digs and making science experiments. Steve also played and excelled in all sports when he was younger, and loved playing golf in his later years. His favorite group, also known as "The Yardbirds", competed for the weekly Semo Cup at Palo Verde Golf Club in Sun Lakes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Semo; daughter, Randi Kay (Nate) Sell; son, Colby Michael Semo; grandchildren: Annabelle, Nate Jr., and Noah Stephen Michael; 2 sisters, Katherine Ann (George) McCombs, and Donna DiBartolo; nephews: Kevin, Keith, Eric, Anthony, Michael, Stephen, Chris, Joey, Jason, and Adam; and niece, Patrice; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
Steve was preceded in passing by his parents; along with his brother, Jack Semo; sister-in-law, Eileen Semo; brother-in-law, Tony DiBartolo; and his beloved Aunt Marie Edwards, who was like a mom to Steve.
A visitation for Steve will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 East Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248.
Steve's funeral service will occur Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S Alma School Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248. His graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Steve may be made to the V Foundation.
