

Ted Rasmussen, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Gilbert, Arizona, on April 14, 2016. Ted was born in White Plains, New York, and made his home in Phoenix for the past 70 years. He was a Signalman in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served on the Flagship of Admiral Raymond A. Spruance. He served on 8 ships during WWII, most notably the USS Indianapolis, which was sunk just 30 hours after Ted got off. During his time in the service he earned numerous medals and also re-enlisted and served during the Korean War. After his Naval discharge, Ted spent his career in Phoenix as a general contractor, where he raised his family. He called Mormon Lake his second home where he and his family spent many summers together. He loved to hunt and fish and was a member of the Arizona Country Club where he golfed for many years. He was active in the Chandler VFW Post and the Military Order of the Cooties during his retirement years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean (Mehl), his second wife of 48 years, Mary Frances (Sullivan) and his parents, Fred W. Rasmussen and Elizabeth L. (Merkle). He is survived by his daughters: Karen DeWitt (Bryan), Tina Larcey (Mark), Cindy Mello (Scott), Angie Clark and Kimberly Batt (Terry); grandchildren Chris, Matt and Pete DeWitt, Ryan Larcey, Maureen Atwood, Noah and Ty Fahey; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Elsie Wildnauer, brother Paul Rasmussen and numerous nieces and nephews.
