Veronica was born in December 1957 in Chicago Illinois. She was born into a large close knit God fearing family. She attended Corliss High school where she met and married her high school sweetheart Byron Metcalf Sr. She had two children from that union, Byron and Leticia. Eventually settling in Paradise Valley Arizona where she worked for twenty years with her mother and father in the family owned business, Brystal 1 hour Dry Cleaners. In 2001 she had the Privilege of becoming the Director of Medical Records for the Gila River Health Care Corporation. (The Caring House). She was a faithful and dedicated member of Higher Ground Christian Fellowship pastored by the Reverend Joseph L. Harris Jr.
Those who got to know her describe Veronica as Spiritual, classy, beautiful, funny and always loving and caring. Such a mighty spirit in such a tiny package, her strength and fortitude against all obstacles is a shining example to all. She will always be remembered and cherished by her 6 grandchildren who lovingly called her “Tutu”.
Veronica leaves behind her parents; Charlcia and Gene Tucker of Rantoul, Illinois, Vernon and Diane Harris of Chicago Illinois. Her children Byron (Amandra) Metcalf, Jr. of Maricopa AZ, Leticia (Derek) Ahlvers of Gilbert AZ. Her siblings, Johnny (Cynthia) Harris, Sr. of El Mirage AZ, Blanire(Joseph) Harris of Anniston AL, Sophia(Lamart) Kelly of Surprise AZ, Vernon L. Harris of AZ, Keenan(Laresse)Harris of Chicago IL, Kelly (Gerri) Harris of Chicago IL, and Kesha Harris of Chicago, IL and many uncles, aunts, cousins, grandchildren, friends and co-workers.
Veronica is preceded in death by her Ex-husband Byron Metcalf Sr, her grandparents, Maggie Leftridge, George Leftridge, Daniel Smiley, Annie Smiley, Bernice Harris, Thomas Morgan, her uncle Prince Leftridge, and nephew Robert Harris.
A viewing will be held Friday, December 11, 2020 at 10:00am at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery. Covid-19 precautions will be taken.
