
CHAPIN – Mr. Alburn Eugene “Gene” Hutto, 72, went home to be with the Lord February 21, 2012, after a brief illness.
Mr. Hutto is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Amelia Mizell Hutto; children, Johnny Eugene and his wife Hereatha and Judy Gail Watson and her husband, Ron; grandsons, Rodney Aaron Watson and Ashton Hutto Bishop; two step grandsons, Steven and Chris Watson and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hutto was born July 15, 1939, in West Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Annie Hutto and two brothers, Bennie Crowder and Alfred Hutto.
He was an active member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church of Peak where he was an usher and faithfully loved to send church members birthday and anniversary cards. He was a member of Boyleston Lodge #126 of Ballentine since 1983, where he was a Past Master and Secretary. He was also a member of Mid-Carolina Lions Club where he was a Past President. Gene worked as a barber for fifty-three years formerly at Bakers Hairstyling and currently at T. Edward Hair Company. He was also an avid Gamecock fan.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church of Peak with Pastor Walter Shealy and Pastor Jason Antley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. Pallbearers will be O. B. Baker, Arthur Euthon, Michael McCoy, Ron Watson, Terry Edwards and Patrick Bowers.
Gene will long be remembered as Peak’s Santa Claus, a loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. He will truly be missed by his dog, Lucky.
