Growing up in Hawaii, she was a teenager during the Pearl Harbor Bombings. Beatrice worked as a telephone operator for Hawaiian Bell. Beatrice shared many vivid memories from fielding emergency telephone calls on the day of the bombings. Going where her husband and the US Navy took her, she moved to South Carolina in 1967. Mrs. Sharpe retired as a switchboard operator for South Carolina National Bank. She was also a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Chapin.
She was the daughter of the late JaCinto and Dorthea Estrella. Mrs. Sharpe is survived by daughters, Pamela S. Chick (John) of Little Mountain, SC, Mary “Tweedy” Knef (Andrew) of Stuttgardt, Germany and sons, Michael C. Sharpe of Little Mountain, SC, Christopher Sharpe (Martha) of Boling, TX, and Peter M. Sharpe (Farrah) of Sasebo City, Japan. She also is survived by her sister, Rose Marie Ha’o of Aiea, HA. Mrs. Sharpe had many many grandchildren and great grands. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mann, Beverly Kraus and brothers-in-law, Edward Sharpe and Gerry Wayne Sharpe.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm Tuesday, September 8th, at Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation will be held at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel from 9:30 to 11:30 am prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 am Wednesday, September 9th, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Services may be viewed via livestream on the Caughman Harman Funeral Home- Chapin Chapel Facebook Page. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements and encourages all patrons to practice the use of masks and social distancing while attending services.
