Billy Ray Franklin

Billy was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a fun and “goofy” grandfather who enjoyed being around his family. He always made sure to tell his kids and grandkids that he was proud of them and would just call to tell you that he loved you when the feeling hit him. Billy still had a flip phone and did not understand or appreciate technology. He enjoyed a good meal, especially bologna and Mountain Dew. In his younger years, Billy could call a square dance like no-one else and would take his daughters everywhere he went.

Billy was formerly a truck driver and a hard worker at everything he did. He really enjoyed driving long distance and retired in 2004. Since his retirement, Billy has been a frequent flyer at Kwik Way in White Rock where he was part of a “breakfast club” with close friends.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Faye McCartha Franklin; his beloved daughters, Gena Misouria and Terry Franklin; six grandchildren, Malaysia Thompson, Davon Childs, Shai Franklin, Lailah Misouria, JJ Shinn and Xander Shinn; his sister, Virginia (Rick) Hankins and a host of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Henderson C. Franklin and Winona Duffie Hall and his brother, Edmund Franklin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, Bethel Lutheran Church, 2081 Dutch Fork Road, White Rock, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel, 123 Columbia Avenue, Chapin, SC.
