CHAPIN – A few words cannot begin to summarize the life and legacy of a phenomenal woman, and to try would seem an impossible task…but try we will. Dorothy Ernestine Price Teal’s (Tene, Mom, Grandma and MaMa) heart and kindness stretched far beyond what the eye can see. She loved fully and showed her devotion to family and friends through hard work, dedication, flowers and food. Ernestine was born in Canton, NC. She was the daughter of the late Edward Bartlett and Evelyn Brabham Price.
She is predeceased by her parents, as well as, her two sisters, Margaret Wright and Cecilia Davis, and her husband, Eugene “Dandy” Teal. She is survived by her three loving sons, Bartlett Teal (Alice), Eugene Teal, Jr. (Sherry) and Leland Teal (Carol). She continues her legacy with her beloved seven grandchildren, to whom she supported and loved with every breath she took, Joann O’Connell (Jerry), Bartlett “B” Teal, Jr. (Elizabeth), Eugene “Trey” Teal, III (Samantha), Jason Teal (April), Brandon Teal, Amanda Haltiwanger (Jason) and Heather Jordan (Charles). Lastly, she happily embraced and cherished her ten great-grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney, Jerry, Triston, Caleb, Jude, Reese, Maggie, Evelyn and Wyatt. Earlier in her life, her time was spent working for the railroad(CN&L) with her husband, Gene, and her dedicated dog, Fang. Her extensive knowledge and love of the railroad was shared with each generation that would join her at her front door and enjoy every passing train. Ernestine was a talented artist. Her magical way with flowers beautified the lives of her family and the Chapin community. Ernestine’s green thumb was passed down from her equally talented mother. Grandma’s abilities ranged from cooking a special meal for each family member, attending each person’s sporting event (and keeping up with the stats), reading her daily Bible reading by her bedroom window, to greeting each Sunday afternoon, holiday and birthday with a home-cooked meal (which included everyone’s favorites). One cannot begin to comprehend how she managed to do all that she did, for anyone and everyone. She was a devoted member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church. The unselfish love that Ernestine shared will be forever imprinted on our hearts. It is our hope that at some point, we can look back at our lives and say, we lived a life that Grandma would have been proud of.
