Eugene was born September 20, 1944 in Corinth, Mississippi, the son of Clovis and Evelyn Turner. He grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and after graduating high school, joined the Army. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Lottie Bumpus. After serving in the military, Eugene joined Universal Warehouse Company in Memphis. He eventually became General Manager, and ultimately President of the company.
He retired in Gulf Shores, Alabama where he enjoyed golf, boating, and riding his jet ski. While living in the Craft Farms subdivision, he served as President of the Homeowner's Association. Eugene was also a skilled pool player and won his last tournament in 2024. He cherished spending time with friends near the water, traveling, and annual deep sea fishing trips with family. He most recently resided in Lexington, South Carolina and made wonderful friends in the Wellmore Independent Living Community. He will be remembered as a wise businessman, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a loyal friend, and a mentor to everyone he worked with. His kindness and generosity were inspiring to all those who knew him.
His legacy lives on through his daughter Dana Burke (Shawn) and grandsons; Connor, Dylan, and Kyle Burke. He was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn, father Clovis (CT), and brothers Hoyle and Jerry Turner. Eugene's family has chosen to remember him privately at this time and will celebrate his life at a later date.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the care and support of Dr. Michael Roberts of Lexington Cardiology and Mike Perez with Amedisys Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
