Floy Godfrey, 81, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 5, 2021. Her story began in Chapin, SC on November 6, 1940 when she was born to her loving parents, James B. and Rilzie (Harmon) McCartha. Floy grew up with five siblings who survive her: James H. McCartha of Chapin, Gene (Jean) McCartha of Gilbert, Faye (Billy) Franklin of Chapin, HL “Doc” (Tina) McCartha of Chapin, and Mike (Vickie) McCartha of Lexington.
Floy graduated from Chapin High School in 1959 with classmates that turned into lifelong friends.
On Dec 24, 1961, Floy married and was predeceased by James D. Godfrey. Together, the two had and are survived by two daughters, Sheila (Vance) Melton and Sonya (Michael) Turner. Both were predeceased by an angel baby in 1976. Floy loved and adored her two beautiful granddaughters, Nikki and Katelyn Melton as well as a grandson, Cory Godfrey, who predeceased her.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins who she adored and who simply adored her.
Floy’s hobbies included gardening, canning, baking, cooking, traveling, and spoiling people. Floy had a beautiful soul, a loving heart that she wore on her sleeve, gentle hands, and her ability to make mouth-watering cakes was uncanny. Her specialty was carrot cake. Anyone who knew Floy loved her and anyone that ate her cooking/baking knew how much she loved them. Her smile would light up any room and she loved making people happy.
Floy retired from Michelin in Lexington and had worked at Litton/Monroe in Lexington, and Shull Sausage Company. Post retirement, she took care of her aging mother. People would often see them traveling together, going to Hardee’s in Chapin or McDonald’s in Irmo, or playing BINGO at Seven Oaks Park or Crooked Creek Park.
Floy also enjoyed time with her church family and her friends and family in the Order of the Eastern Star, both the Ballentine Chapter and the Grand Chapter of South Carolina.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff of Generations of Chapin, Comfort Care Hospice, Memory Care of Simpsonville, and Wren Hospice for all the loving care that they gave to Floy as her breast cancer and dementia progressed.
The family asks for your continued prayers at this time and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the following: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, Shriner’s Children's Hospital at https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/locations/greenville, the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/sc, or Leeza’s Care Connection at https://www.leezascareconnection.org/.
