It is with deep sorrow and unwavering faith that we announce the passing of Harry Arthur Plexico, Jr., affectionately known to us as Bud, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the age of 69. He passed away peacefully at home in Little Mountain, SC with his wife by his side. He was born on April 20, 1955 to Barbara Plexico and the late Harry A. Plexico, Sr. in Redbank, New Jersey.
Harry graduated from Columbia High School in 1973 where he excelled in athletics, particularly football. He went on to get his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University in 1979, where he also played football from 1973-1975. While at Clemson, he was a founding member of Kappa Phi fraternity. He enjoyed keeping up with friends he met during this time.
For 36 years, Harry worked as production supervisor at Allied Chemical and Intertape Polymer Group before retiring in 2015. He was described by many as the best mentor they ever had who always believed in them more than they believed in themselves. He also dedicated 24 years to the Midlands Workforce Development Board, where he served as chairman of the board.
A lifelong Clemson fan, Harry rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his Tigers. He was an avid angler, hunter, and Nascar enthusiast who loved the outdoors. Some of the best moments of his life were spent pursuing his passions, bass fishing on the lake, raising and training english pointer bird dogs for quail hunting, and on his yearly trips to the Daytona 500. He enjoyed spending time relaxing on Folly Beach, listening to music, and planning cookouts making his famous fried fish. He cherished the time he spent building relationships on these many adventures with his family and lifelong friends. He was truly one of a kind and the most genuine person you will ever meet.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, Harry A. Plexico, Sr and his granddaughter, Sloane Ryann Plexico.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Margaret Shell Plexico; son, Harry Ryan Plexico (Maggie) of Chapin, SC; daughter, Marie Newell (Will) of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Ada Marie Plexico, Vivianne Plexico, Ford Newell, Garland Newell, Maggie Newell, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of one on the way, Saylor Plexico.
