
CHAPIN – A graveside service for Joseph L. Hodges, 93, husband of Jean Bishop Hodges, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036. The family will receive friends following the service. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. The family has requested gifts in lieu of flowers, be made in memory of Joseph L. Hodges, Sr. to the church building fund.
Mr. Hodges was born August 5, 1921 in Jordan, SC and passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. He was the son of the late Rev. Frank Emory Hodges, Sr. and Jennie Lou Hodges. Mr. Hodges was a 1939 graduate of Lower Marlboro High School in Blenheim, SC. He served in the U. S. Air Corps during World War II as a Radio Operator Mechanic Gunnery aboard a B-29 Aircraft. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He was an agent for the Life Insurance Company of Georgia in Orangeburg and Aiken for 5 years. Mr. Hodges retired from the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company after 37 years of service. His passion was serving God and his family and visiting the beach.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. Hodges, Jr. and Cindy Lattimore Hodges of Chapin and daughter, Amy Hodges Livingston of Chapin; 3 grandsons, Will Livingston, Trent Hodges and Cole Hodges. He was predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vidal H. Horton, John Henry Jr., Jennie Ruth Meetze and Robert Meetze Sr.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Parker Hodges, Mary Lou Hodges, Frank Emory Hodges Jr. and Helen Hodges.
