

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Aaron Goldberg and Ida Axelrod Goldberg, and his sisters, Sonya Goldberg Rapoport and Judith Goldberg Ogan.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Abrams Goldberg; his sons, Michael D. Goldberg (Ashley) and Jonathan M Goldberg (Susan); his grandchildren, Grace Goldberg Koster (Bas,) Sophia A. Goldberg, Jake A. Goldberg and Luke Z. Goldberg; his step-grandchildren, Morgana Schiermeyer and Hunter Schiermeyer; and great-grandchildren, Elsa and Margo Koster.
Alan was born July 11, 1925 in Boston, MA. He graduated Tufts University with a BS in Chemistry and earned an MBA from U of PA Wharton School of Business.
Alan was a World War II Veteran who served from 1943-1946 in France and Germany in the 13th Armored Division of the U.S. Army.
Alan started his career in textile sales in New York and found himself commuting to NC frequently and moved the family to Charlotte, NC in 1962. He became President of Aladdin Knit Mills in Bessemer City, NC running a knitting and finishing operation. In 1970 he left Aladdin and worked for Speizman Industries selling knitting and finishing equipment. A few years later he left Speizman and became the sales manager for Krantz America selling textile finishing equipment internationally.
Alan, along with his wife Ruth, have been active members of Temple Israel the past 60 years. In addition, Alan was an instrumental fundraiser for Jewish Family Services and served as President for 7 years.
After retirement, he was the volunteer photographer for the Shalom Park Freedom School. Alan’s life passion has been photography. He took thousands of pictures of people, nature and events, and developed them in his dark room. Many of those pictures are lifetime gifts to individuals and institutions.
The family would like to thank Wanda Gilliard, Patricia Benjamin, Betrinia Crawford, Darcel Fennell, and Ammie Jackson for their care and devotion to Alan in the past years.
Funeral services will be held in the Hebrew Cemetery Chapel located at 1801 Statesville Ave., Charlotte, NC 28206 on July 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
