

Al is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, daughter Cynthia Ogburn (husband Greg), son Ernest Bonner (wife Niki) and son Douglas Bonner (wife Angela). He and Dorothy have twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Al was born in Memphis, TN in 1936 to parents Albert Bonner, Jr. and Helen Meckel Bonner. He grew up in Little Rock, AR and entered the US Air Force in 1956. He was commissioned after completing navigator training and during a 23 year career he served in numerous stateside and overseas locations as a navigator, administrator and program manager. He attended many Air Force schools and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska and a masters degree from Auburn University. His interesting Air Force career included no only flying duties with a one year tour in Viet Nam, but also unusual jobs in the Postal and Courier Service, industrial facilities management and acquisition program management. After his final job as Director of Production for Air Force Systems Command, Al retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He then worked for 12 years for Rockwell International as a program manager on several Department of Defense and international programs.
A memorial service for Al will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Day Chapel, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28277.
Inurnment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr., Matthews, NC 28104 with Military Honors.
