

Alex was born on July 16, 1935, in Mount Olive, North Carolina, to the late Alex and Jessie Thigpen. He was raised on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work, dedication, and family.
Alex spent his career as a crane operator, a job he truly loved. He proudly worked in this role for more than 60 years and was well respected for his strong work ethic and commitment.
He was blessed with two daughters, Sharon and Tara, and he loved being a father. Alex was very active in his daughters’ lives and took great pride in watching them grow. Later in life, he was overjoyed to become a grandfather and eventually a great-grandfather. He served as a strong and steady example for his family, always showing them the importance of perseverance, love, and support.
Alex was predeceased by his parents, Alex Thigpen Sr. and Jessie Thigpen; and his four brothers.
Alex is survived by his daughters, Sharon Thigpen Baucom and Tara Beck; his granddaughter, Jessica “Poot” Dennis; his great-grandchildren, James and Jacob Dennis; brother, Alfred Thigpen; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212, on March 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
