

Mr. Forrest, age 80, of Mint Hill, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at Royal Park Rehabilitation and Health Center. Born September 9, 1933 in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Claude Columbus Forrest and Gertie Ann Chandler Forrest of New London.
Mr. Forrest was employed with Duke Power Company in the mid 1950’s. He served in the US Army. Following his honorable military service, various job opportunities provided expertise in sales and residential construction. Mr. Forrest owned and operated his HVAC business for more than 20 years. He served as Building Committee Chairman in the construction of his church, Cokesbury United Methodist Church, in the 1970’s. Mr. Forrest voluntarily provided maintenance on the church’s HVAC system until his retirement.
He enjoyed traveling with his family. There were trips to Charleston, Hawaii, New Orleans, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, DC. Mr. Forrest also enjoyed telling and retelling jokes to his family, friends, customers and clients. His smile will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Margie; two daughters, Miriam Forrest Bryant (David) of Pittsboro and Marcia Forrest Herring (Benton) of Denver; three grandchildren, Nathan Bryant of Raleigh, Thomas Bryant of Chapel Hill and Madison Herring of Denver; and a brother, Thomas Forrest of Marion. In addition to his parents, Mr. Forrest was preceded in death by three siblings, Dewey Forrest of Richfield; Eula Forrest Cranford and Rachel Forrest Edwards, both of Albemarle.
The service to celebrate the life of Alfred Claude Forrest will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 16, 2014 at Cokesbury United Church with The Reverend Dr. Sarah Kalish and The Reverend Henry Justice, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Mr. Forrest’s body was donated to UNC School of Medicine for medical training and research.
