Andrew Spencer McNeal Faris, 26, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2024. Andrew (“Anu”) was the son of David and Lisa Faris and the younger brother of David Faris, Jr. (“DJ”). Andrew was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mike and Robbie Faris, and his first cousin, Amanda Wimberly. Andrew was born at Presbyterial Hospital in Charlotte on May 13, 1998. He was a lifetime member of Providence Baptist Church, where he was cared for from infancy by the loving faculty and staff of its child development program. Andrew attended Charlotte Christian School from Kindergarten through the 8th grade. He was graduated from Charlotte Country Day in 2017. Andrew earned a BA in History from Wake Forest University in 2021. He also completed coursework at the University of South Carolina.
After graduation, Andrew moved to Atlanta to work for Situs/AMC, a commercial real estate reporting and compliance firm. In 2023, he returned to Charlotte to work with his father in a small business investment firm.
Andrew’s passing will leave an indescribable hole in the hearts of those who knew him best. He is survived by his parents and the older brother he adored; his maternal grandparents, Verldon and Linda Spence of Lugoff, SC; his aunts and uncles, Rich and Ronda Houghton, Duane and Barbie Spence, Wes and Kieran Maupin, Cindy Phillips, Nabil Fares, and Nabila Daher; his cousins Meagan Wimberly, Lily Houghton, Manil Fares, Sonia Fares, Hala Fares, Lydia Fares, Othmann Daher, Rose Daher, Bobby Bouley, Amy Furr, Katie Adams, and Carrie Nielson.
Andrew had such a good heart. He enjoyed mission trips with his Sunday school class and never missed an opportunity to drop money in an open guitar case for someone in need. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity in Winston-Salem and Atlanta and loved his work there. Like all Country Day students, Andrew supported the school’s annual hosting of the Special Olympics. Andrew also gave time to Charlotte’s Crisis Assistance Ministry.
Andrew was Mr. Social and frequently organized get-togethers with his friends—from pickup basketball games to Demon Deacon and Gamecock tailgates. He enjoyed working out at Ernie’s gym, playing video games, watching all sports, and discussing music, movies and television with his friends (especially the Lord of the Rings films and the Game of Thrones). He loved Scout and Archie, the family labs. He could be obnoxious about demonstrating his knowledge of history.
His lifetime passion was basketball—he played for Charlotte Christian and Country Day. Recently, he served as a volunteer coach at Lab City in Charlotte. He enjoyed watching college and NBA basketball, and attending games in person, especially with his dad.
Andrew loved to travel including spring break trips with his parents and DJ. Among his favorites were the gulf coast of Florida, Disney and Universal, England and Spain. Two recent trips were most special: Germany, with his mother and grandfather, to see one of the places where his grandfather was stationed (US Army): and France with his parents.
McEwen Funeral Service is handling the arrangements; the memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.
