Mrs. Arletta Irene Barlow Byrd Groom

Ms. Arletta Byrd Groom, 80, of Charlotte, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015 at her residence. A native of Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Carrie Barlow. She was a beautician by trade and served as the beautician at Sardis Nursing Home for nearly 20 years. She was also of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Byrd; by a son, Vance Allen Byrd; by a grandson, Michael Brian McGirt; by a brother, Dermont Barlow; and by a nephew Robin Dillard.

Surviving Ms. Groom is her daughter, Amelia McGirt of Charlotte; by her grandchildren, Jennifer McGirt and boyfriend Antoine Helch, Bill McGirt, III, and Jeffrey McGirt, all of Charlotte; by a great-grandson, Juston McGirt of Charlotte; by a sister, Glenda Dillard of Lenoir, NC; by a sister-in-law, Lena Barlow of Lenoir, NC; by her ex-son-in-law, Bill McGirt, Jr. of Charlotte; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Ms. Groom will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Buddy Pigg officiating at the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
