Barbara Hall (Markle) passed away peacefully of cancer on November 11, 2012 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. Barbara was born on May 20, 1952 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, to Kenneth and Jean Markle. She spent ages 2 to 12 in the small town of Neepawa, Manitoba, Canada, and she spoke of Neepawa with great fondness as the ideal small town for a youngster to be a kid. Later the family moved back to Brandon and Barbara lived in Manitoba until 1995. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta as a young adult where she loved the Canadian Rocky Mountains. She worked in design for Thomasville and Lane furniture then later worked for Electrolux (Frigidaire) as a Marketing Representative for western Canada retail outlets. She loved the travel, especially when going to Victoria and could also spend time with her son, his wife and two grandsons. Barbara came to Charlotte, NC in 2004 upon meeting her husband Mike, and they married June 3, 2005. Mike made her extremely happy and he was the love of her life. They had two dogs, Cal and Barney, whom Barbara loved very much and called them her replacement children.
While living in Charlotte she was a member of the University City Women’s Group. Barbara was very proud to be associated with them and was happy to head up a few committees as a member. It gave her joy to see how many charitable deeds the UCWG could do in a year. Barbara volunteered her time to the Humane Society and went to Louisiana to care for abandoned and rescued animals for two weeks after hurricane Katrina. She volunteered also for The Shelter of Hope, serving women and children in their medical needs.
Barbara is survived by her husband K. Michael Hall and her two children, Vanessa Markle of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and Shea Markle (Teresa Ainey) of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Her pride and joy are her two grandsons (Shea) Kael Markle age 12 and Tharen Markle age 9. Also surviving her is her mother Jean Markle and sister Linda Meyer of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Barbara was predeceased by her father Kenneth Markle in 2009.
The family would like to thank all of her close friends and the UCWG and those at St. John’s Baptist Church for their continual flow of cards, thought and prayers, and all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Levine Cancer Center (formerly Blumenthal) in Charlotte, and M.D. Anderson in Houston, TX for their input and care in extending her life over the past year, and to the nurses and staff of Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville for their knowledge, compassion and tender care in helping to make her comfortable and peaceful in her final days here on this earth. She fought the cancer bravely and won that battle, for she is now with her Lord and family who predeceased her, in Heaven.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be at St. John’s Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Ln., Charlotte, NC 28204, at 11:00 am on November 15, 2012 with a catered reception for her guests, to follow. Donations to the Tarheel Weimaraner Society, St. John’s Baptist Church, or any Hospice location of your choosing, are greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers. Internment is to be in Canada at a later date.
