

Barbara Valenstein Jarrell passed away November 23, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born on June 28, 1948 in Charlotte, NC to the late Ted and Miriam Valenstein. Barbara graduated from Myers Park High School in 1965 and received her Associates Degree from Central Piedmont Community College. She had a successful and fulfilling career as a court reporter and later worked for the City of Charlotte.
Throughout her life Barbara had many passions and interests including antiquing, collecting designer costume jewelry, becoming a licensed auctioneer as well as boating and traveling. She was always extremely poised, kind and caring. Those who knew her loved and respected her. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten due to the lasting impressions and impact she had on everyone she met.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Tara Hicks and grandchildren, Sadie and Cody, her pride and joys. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Valenstein (Ellie); sister, Linda Bogin (Bob); and her niece and nephews, Alexa, Ted, and David. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Jack Jarrell and had the privilege of being a loving step-mother and grandmother to Jeanne Jarrell (Savannah), Susan and Roy Renard (Rachel, Becca, Christina, Kayla) and Jay Jarrell (Erin).
The family would like to thank Barbara's special caregivers who cared for her the last several years. We will never be able to express our gratitude for the superior care that she was provided by Stephanie Thieker, Cece Udeh, Akua Ansah, Erika Kenion, Sharline Pryce, and her Hospice care team, Dawn, Anna and Colleen.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte.
Services will be held at the Hebrew Cemetery, 1801 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28206 on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Shiva Minyan at 6:00 p.m. at Barbara’s home.
